Design without Borders in Guatemala
In 2001, the program initiated a co-operation with Universidad Rafael Landívar in Guatemala, mainly funded through Fredskorpset’s exchange program. The aims of the joint program, Design without Borders - Guatemala, are parallel to the aims of the program in general. In the case of the projects in Guatemala, Landívar and Norsk Form have jointly selected project partners among institutions in Guatemala that have expressed an interest in design support to their activities.

Design without Borders in Uganda
Based on positive results from the work in Guatemala, a similar program was established between Makerere University and Norsk Form in 2005. Design without Borders - Uganda will facilitate the exchange of skills between Norwegian and Ugandan professionals. It will contribute to the efforts of the Makerere to develop tangible links with both large scale and small scale industries in Uganda in order to solve technological and management challenges in industries.

The program is linked to Faculty of Technology as well as the School of Industrial and Fine Arts, which plan to establish a college in the near future. Design without Borders - Uganda aims to strengthen product development and entrepreneurial skills of the students at these two institutions.

Design without Borders - Uganda focuses on projects aiming at industrial development that is environmentally sound and socially just.

Design without Borders in Norway
Through Design without Borders, Norwegian businesses and organisations have the opportunity to have a young design professional from Uganda or Guatemala to participate as a member of their staff for one year.

Design without Borders aim at building a pool of businesses and organisations in Norway that involve design in their daily activities. The project partners should be genuinely interested in mutual learning, both professionally and culturally.
