The sanitary situation in Ugandan slums is precarious. Design without Borders' ecological toilet solution can make life easier for the poorest Ugandans.

In the slum areas of Uganda's capital, Kampala, thousands of people share four toilets.  This contributes to a dangerous sanitary environment where bacteria and dangerous diseases are flourishing.
In collaboration with the plastic producer Crestanks, Design without Borders has developed an ecological urinal for domestic use. The toilet solution is small and hygienic enough to be stored in the small houses.

Ecological toilet solution

Poor and lacking sanitary solutions are causing big health issues in Uganda. Limited access to water and inferior infrastructure, make the use of water closets an improbable solution. Design without Borders is developing a hygienic toilet solution that also turns urine and feces into fertilizer. This could contribute to solving some of the health issues.
